Your immune system is essentially a surveillance system looking out for bacteria and viruses which have entered the body. A healthy immune system will detect these pathogens quickly, gather an immune response to clear and disarm them before they have a chance to replicate and make us ill. Having faced a global pandemic we can see the importance of a strong immune system and how susceptible individuals with a low immune response can be adversely affected yet the same virus can have no or negligible impact on those with a strong immune system.
