Kate started her working life using her French and Italian degree and organised international conferences before stints teaching and translating. Her claim to fame is that she translated for the then Prince Charles in Italy while she was studying there as an undergraduate! In her late 20s she nursed her mother before she died and witnessing her illness and decline provoked a deep desire to understand healing in another way. After a handful of sessions of acupuncture to support her insomnia as she was grieving, she decided to give up her job and train in Traditional Chinese Medicine, using the small amount of money that her mother left. After a three-year degree and two of her 3 children later, she graduated in 1998 and has never looked back.

Her career in healthcare has seen her work in GP practices in an attempt to try and bring an integrated healthcare model to her area. She made excellent connections with local midwives and set up a Maternity Acupuncture Clinic at the Lister hospital in Stevenage with her constant wish to give women choice at important life stages. Since Covid she is back working in integrated health Clinics with her private practice where she feels her offering lands well.

In the last few years, she has become a senior lecturer at the City College of Acupuncture co-ordinating 3 modules on the degree level course. Here she lecturers on how to create safe spaces in the treatment room, compassionate and non-judgemental practice and supporting boundaries and self-care. She also supervises new graduates on their professional journeys and likes nothing more than to witness people empowered and evolving.

Her other passions include following the Chinese Medical model of eating seasonally and cyclically. She has written a recipe book to support those who wish to follow this simple but effective way of living. She also is passionate about uncovering the emotional content of ‘dis-ease’ as quoted in the classics and often supports patients with growth in this area. Her most recent venture is retreat offerings in Greece, Switzerland and Hertfordshire where people can come and experience the whole essence of the medicine, un-plug and take time to re-calibrate in nature.

In her free time Kate likes long distance walking, skiing, cold water swimming and travelling. She lives in Hertfordshire with her border collie Buddy and has 3 grown up children who have (almost) all flown the nest!
